Billion 711CE Re-Flash Guide.

This guide is intended for Billion BIPAC-711CE users who have flashed to Version 3.14 of the firmware, and need to flash back to Version 2.33a so they can install the new Version 2.33a UPnP enabled firmware. Note - I have removed the initial firmware DOS flash ISO as I feel it is no longer required as the B100d firmware is a lot more stable, but this guide is still useful for those that download the flash utility from www.billion.com.au and wish to run this utility from their hard drive. Or if you would like an easier method, download my DOS flash ISO from the front page. Just boot your PC with the CD in the drive, and it will show you the instructions when booting has completed.

To start off, there are a few things you will need to have ready to do the procedure, to save setting the Billion BIPAC-711CE up again between flashes.

1. Connexant DOS Flash Utility located in the downloads section
2. Bootable Windows 98/ME DOS Boot floppy.
3. Billion BIPAC-711CE Firmware Version 2.33a located in the downloads section
4. USB Cable supplied with the Billion BIPAC-711CE.
5. Crossover cable supplied with the Billion BIPAC-711CE.
6. Phillips head screwdriver.
7. A spare jumper connector, eg. off an old hard disk or motherboard.

To start off, extract the DOS flash utility to a temporary directory on your hard drive (eg. C:\Billion). It must be a valid FAT/FAT32 partition, not to an NTFS partition otherwise you will not be able to find the flash utility from DOS.

Now on to the flashing stage.

Step 1. Remove the 4 screws on the bottom of the Billion BIPAC-711CE and open casing. Swing casing open from "PWR" light end, using the sticker at the opposite end like a hinge of sorts.

Step 2. Place a jumper on JP4. This is located just above the chip with "MX" printed on it.

Step 3. Connect USB cable to Billion BIPAC-711CE.

Step 4. Connect AC Adaptor to Billion. With a jumper on JP4 you will only get the "PWR" light come on.

Step 5. Boot in to DOS using your bootable DOS floppy. Then locate the directory where you stored the flash utility (C:\Billion\)

Step 6. At the DOS Prompt type "flash /e" and press "enter" to start the flash erase.

C:\Billion\flash /e Press <ENTER>

Step 8. Remove the AC Adaptor from the Billion BIPAC-711CE.

Step 9. Remove the USB Cable from the Billion BIPAC-711CE.

Step 10. Remove the jumper from "JP4".

Step 11. Close casing of Billion BIPAC-711CE and refit 4 case screws.

Now the Billion BIPAC-711CE is back to the initial firmware release. Note - The first boot up of the Billion BIPAC-711CE will take a long time to complete after doing the DOS flash (2-3 minutes), and the "SYS" light may stay lit as well, making you think that the flash was unsuccessful.

Once the Billion BIPAC-711CE has booted, connect the supplied crossover cable directly to your computer and the Billion BIPAC-711CE (NOT through a switch/hub), and flash to Firmware Version 2.33a (non UPnP) firmware by logging in to the webconfig (http://192.168.1.254) under "Code Image Update".
